VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
| |
For those who chose to make a difference in a childs life, for those who dare to care, consider volunteering at The Healing Center. There are three types of great volunteer opportunities for you.
CHILDRENS GROUP FACILITATOR Group Facilitators work directly with the children in the weekly support groups. There are approximately six group facilitators in each support group. The staff Group Coordinator leads the group and provides supervision for the volunteers. Prospective volunteers need not have any experience in working with children. The Healing Center requires each prospective volunteer Group Facilitator to complete a 30 hour training program to prepare for the work with the children at the Center. The training class is conducted once each year in the fall. The training classes are held at Long Island College Hospital on weekend days and weekday evenings. The training is designed to be experiential and interactive. Some of the topics that are part of the discussion are: experiences with loss and death in our family importance of culture and belief systems understanding and support of grief work how children grasp concepts of death techniques in working with grieving children.
ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Advisory Committee meets 6 times each year and develops awareness/outreach programs to the community. The Committee plans one fund raising event each year and engages members of the community to conduct projects for the support group participants, i.e. making a quilt, painting a mural.
BUSINESS BREAKFAST As a business owner/manager in the community, you invite other business to the "Get to Know The Healing Center" breakfast. The 45 minute breakfast can be arranged for any weekday morning, at a time convenient to you.
